Heron’s Ostara Incense Recipe

In 2026, we prepare to celebrate the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere on March 20th, as the sun enters Aries at 10:46 am. Or, if you’re aiming to get the family together on a weekend, aim for March 20-22.

The Spring Equinox is a potent energetic threshold in the Wheel of the Year, with the solar transition from Pisces into Aries, and from Water into Fire. Energy shifts from Winter’s dreaming into Spring’s boost of waking energy. On my Wheel of the Year map of energetic tides, Air’s mysteries also shift from Knowing to Wonderment.

This loose incense blend is crafted specifically for energetic spring cleaning. It clears winter’s accumulated heaviness, restores movement and clarity, and gently kindles motivation, warmth, and vitality within the household. It supports the seasonal shift from contemplation into engagement, helping interior spaces feel fresh again. Purchase here!

I designed this blend to be burned alongside the Ostara candle I designed depicting Poseidon of Pisces passing the season to Eros of Aries. Together, flame and smoke enact the mythic hand-off at the heart of the Spring Equinox.

Charm of Making

Try chanting this magickal charm while smoke cleansing your home.

Water releases, fire ignites,
The Wheel turns on, life takes flight.
What fades is freed, what lives now grows—
By flame and smoke, the springtime flows.

Why These Ingredients?

Copal Resin forms the foundation of the blend. Traditionally used to purify and sanctify space, copal lifts stagnant emotional and energetic residue. It prepares the ground for new movement.

Pine Bark brings the vitality of evergreen life. In folk magic, pine restores circulation, resilience, and protection, especially after long periods of dormancy.

Cinnamon Bark In folk and planetary magic, cinnamon is associated with Fire and Aries, bringing prosperity, vitality, and decisive action.

Rosemary Leaf sharpens awareness. Long associated with remembrance, blessing, and protection, rosemary brings clarity, focus, and alertness.

Lemon Peel Citrus has long been used to refresh energy, elevate mood, and encourage mental clarity.

Honeysuckle Blossom Invites sweetness, attraction, and pleasure back into the home, reminding us that renewal includes joy and beauty.

Allspice Berries, is traditionally linked to luck, courage, and vitality.

Daffodil Blossoms, I saved these from last spring, and they carry the memory of that emergence for me. In folk tradition, daffodils symbolize rebirth, hope, and continuity across cycles.
